Dear Veteran,
News of the fast spreading Omicron variant has some people understandably on edge as we continue the fight against this persistent pandemic. Unlike last winter, we now have the power to protect ourselves and our loved ones. Here are three things we want you to know!
- If you are experiencing symptoms such as a cough, runny/stuffy nose, fatigue, sore throat, headache, muscle pain, fever or sneezing, call the VISN 8 Clinical Contact Center (877-741-3400) first – before visiting a hospital or clinic. Our clinicians are available 24/7 to address your concerns, schedule a virtual appointment with a licensed health care professional in the comfort of your home or wherever you may be, or assist if you need to get tested for COVID-19.
- If you have not yet gotten a COVID-19 vaccine or booster, now’s the time to get that done. Current vaccines work against the Omicron and other variants, especially for people who get their booster shots. Learn more about vaccine availability at https://www.va.gov/health-care/covid-19-vaccine/
- If you are vaccinated, or have recovered from a previous COVID-19 infection, you may still get the COVID-19 Omicron variant infection. Your illness may be mild or you could have no symptoms at all; however you can infect others. That’s why it’s still important to mask in indoor settings, practice physical distancing, wash your hands frequently, and get tested if you have symptoms.
Doing these simple things will help control the spread of Omicron and other variants that are circulating in our communities. Your safe care is our mission!
