Saturday, 14 August -- Detachment Trustee Meeting 1000 @ Post Tiki Hut.

Thursday, 19 August -- Monthly Detachment Meeting @ Post 1900. Return to formal meeting format inside Post.

Friday, 24 September -- Pompano Kiwanis Charity Golf Tournament.  Detachment will deploy a 'Beat The Pro' fundraising challenge on a par-3 hole and sell raffle tix.  Need 2 more golfers and several members to man the tent.

Saturday, 30 October -- Virtual Marine Corps Marathon.  Runners start in Sunrise and finish at Post or a location where Detachment can host food & drink. Looking to have Legion Riders escort runners.

Saturday, 13 November -- 246th Marine Corps Birthday Ball.  Location TBD.  Details to follow.   AR Pistol Raffle ticket drawing. 
 
 
EXCHANGE CLUB MAKES DONATION
Commandant Jon Saluk accepted a $500 donation from the Pompano Beach Exchange Club President Donn Atkins on behalf of MCL Detachment 1058.

Exchange Club programs benefit youth, promote pride in our country, and honor military and public service providers.
 
CAR WINDOW FLAGS
Car window flags are being sold at the bar inside the Post. 

$6 each or 2 for $10.  Proceeds go to the Detachment.
 
AR PISTOL RAFFLE
The next raffle will be for an AR Pistol.  Tickets are $20 each & available from Detachment members.  Drawing will be held at the Marine Corps Birthday Ball. 
  
Winners will have the option to take the pistol or $500 in cash.
 
OFFICIAL DETACHMENT SHIRTS
Official RED Detachment Polo Shirts are now available from the Paymaster. $25 each.  Click HERE to reserve your shirt.  Don't be the odd man out at official events.  Wear the Detachment shirt proudly wherever Marines & Veterans gather.
 
THE GREATEST BEER RUN EVER
The Detachment is working to hold a screening of a new movie, currently in production, about a Marine Veteran who snuck back into the Vietnam War zone to find his 3 closest friends and bring them beer. 47 years later, the group reunited to relive the greatest beer run ever. MARINE CORPS LEAGUE BULLETIN BOARD
The new Detachment bulletin board is up inside the back room in the Post.  Members are asked to bring in interesting content to fill up the board.

CHILI COOK-OFF @ O'BRIAN'S
The Chili Cookoff was a great event.  22 different chilis entered & tasted by 4 Detachment judges - Neal, Harley, Ralph & Jim.  All lived to taste & drink another day.  O'Brian's was packed & a good time was had by all.

RESOURCE CORNER
The 22 Project supports underserved war veterans who have traumatic brain injuries and are at risk for depression and/or suicide. In collaboration with physicians, therapists, and health care workers, The 22 Project provides advanced medical treatments to reduce a veteran’s risk of depression and/or suicide, including care and evaluation by highly trained board certified physicians, hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT), and essential brain supplements and superfoods, all at no cost to the veteran.
 
WANNA VISIT THE MARINE CORPS MUSEUM IN QUANTICO?
The National Museum of the Marine Corps has reopened, after being closed for the last year because of COVID-19. The Detachment is considering a group visit next summer to see the Museum, the Evening Parade at 8th & I, etc. Please indicate your interest HERE.

MCL newsletter blurb

With the dog days of summer upon us the Marine Corps League is coming on like a hurricane.

Even though we are going dark with no meeting in July we still are aggressively planning several upcoming events. Our latest raffle, a stealth pistol AR 15, $10 donation for a ticket with the drawing at the 246th Marine Corps Ball scheduled for Saturday 13 November. Ball details are being finalized. See any League member for AR raffle tickets. Saturday 30 October is our upcoming fundraiser, a virtual 50k Marine Corps Marathon ending with a post run celebration at Post 142 Tiki Hut, more details to come.
The Marine Corps League meets every 3rd Thursday from 1900-2000.

CHILI COOK-OFF @ O'BRIAN'S
Come on out to the annual Chili Cook-Off at O'Brian's Irish Pub, 51 Southeast 1st Avenue, in Boca Raton starting around 1200. 
Several Detachment Members are serving as judges.
 
MEMORIAL DAY @ POST 142
Post 142 hosted a brief Memorial Day Ceremony followed by a free hamburger & hot dog lunch. Commander Sweeney announced his plan to hold next year's ceremony back at the Pompano Memorial Cemetary.  
 
AR RAFFLE MEMORIAL DAY DRAWING
We have a winner for the custom AR Raffle courtesy of Tactical Life Firearms. Congratulations to DJ Jones.
 
RESOURCE CORNER
An average of 22 veterans commit suicide each day.  Mostly younger vets.  They come back to the World with PTSD, TBI and other injuries.  They can't sleep more than a few hours a night - if at all.  The VA is no help.  Project 22 provides help and support through various therapies and programs, including Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy, Equine therapy, Military Therapy Dogs, Meditation, Veteran Sailing Groups, Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation, and more.  You can help...OOORAH
